Kintsugi; the Japanese craft of mending ceramics with gold to acknowledge and add to their aging value and preciousness.
Centering around this traditional craft, this live project with Oxfam, looks at the 40’s Make Do and Mend movement, and explores its applicability today. Using her own hand-woven fabrics, Sally develops a new patching technique, which much like Kintsugi appreciates the long-lasting value that comes with time and aging. These hand-woven patches are meticulously embroidered into the original fabric of a garment, giving a new-found decorative quality and visible care.
